Paul James
is a composer, modular artist, and sound designer based in Central Scotland, UK.
Born with a profound hearing impairment, his curiosity for sound and music were always stronger than the sum of any missing parts.
In early musical life, he began working as an assistant studio engineer with a focus on live sound and music recording. Now, working as a session player, and creating original compositions, collaborations, and commissions.
An avid sound and story collector, he had the good fortune to work for several years as a digital archivist, curating and preserving original field recordings made on reel to reel cassette.
Much of this is a fine balancing of the clients need for modern audio standards and consistencies and delicate restorative work which is sensitive to the material and the original recording medium.
It was this experience that led to the appreciation/fascination with capturing and documenting peoples lives and their stories through their words, their instruments, and their music. This is what led me to create
